As summer rolls into the mountains, our calendars quickly begin to fill up with the seemingly endless list of awesome events and activities happening in the Valley. This summer is no exception! However, there are two events returning to the resort this month which are always annual favourites, and deserve a spot on your June calendar.
The Branch Out Bike Tour – June 17
For the past seven years, The Branch Out Foundation for neurological disorders, who are based in Calgary, organize the Branch Out Bike Tour at Panorama. Four hundred cyclists make their way to Panorama for a weekend of road riding, fresh air, mountain scenery, and sweaty road biking fun. The Branch Out Foundation is a fun, spirited, and funky organization with one heck of a cause and a great story behind them. Crystal Phillips was an elite speed skater and aspiring Olympian whose dreams were suddenly challenged in 2006 with an MS diagnosis. Crystal channeled her pain into determination and created a not-for-profit foundation that has become a catalyst for a growing medical movement. The Branch Out Foundation help to fund scientific research into non-pharmaceutical treatments for neurological conditions. The Foundation has defined a whole new medical discipline called NeuroCAM (neuroscience + complementary and alternative modalities), and it is because of her efforts that 7 years later Branch Out has raised over 2 million dollars and funded more than 46 research programs.
The weekend acts as one of the organizations largest annual fundraising initiatives, but more than that the 80, 100, or 160 km bike tour ends up being a fantastic few days of like-minded individuals who are connecting over a shared passion for uncovering NeuroCAM solutions. The event attracts those from across BC and Alberta who may have been affected by a neurological disorder personally, or are passionate and motivated to see non-pharmaceutical solutions found for diseases that affect over 20% of the world’s population.
Top 5 reasons to take part in the 2017 Branch Out Bike Tour.
- Help to uncover solutions for the 600 diseases of the nervous system (like Parkinsons and Alzheimers) that impact nearly 20% of the worlds population.
- Spend a weekend in the mountains cycling some of the most beautiful scenery surrounded roads in BC.
- Prizes, banquets, live music (the list goes on)
- Get outside and get your sweat on!
- Connect with other bikers and/or those with a link to neurological disorders
The Branch Out Foundation has set a goal of opening a NeuroCAM research centre in Calgary by 2020. If you are interested in supporting the foundation or registering as a participant or volunteer for the Bike Tour, please visit the Branch Out Foundation Website.
Mountain of Hope Gala – June 24
June 24th welcomes back the Mountain of Hope Society, a group of locals who host an annual cocktail Gala including gourmet food and a silent auction raising funds for Columbia Valley residents who need some help getting on their feet. Originally, the Mountain of Hope was formed as a response to the classic ‘passing the hat’ impromptu fundraiser events held when there was a hardship in the community. It soon became apparent to the Mountain of Hope founders Neil Carey, Julie Carey, and Miel Dubielewicz that a more formal fundraising effort was required to have a pool of funds in reserve so they could react more quickly when there was a time of need. The Society has garnered increased awareness from the community and the money raised at the past 11 years have helped over 50 families, with more than $200,000 donated to those in need, always keeping the recipients private.

This year’s gala features a silent auction, cocktails, dinner, and dancing taking place at Panorama’s Great Hall. For further information, or to purchase your $40 tickets for the gala and silent auction please contact the organizers at [email protected].
